  • Fun Web App Project
  • Homepage (Cyberrift)
    • This is a forum for ongoing exploration of current web technology.
    • Goal: Easy-to-use personal content management
    • Specifics:
      • Enable easily maintainable pages, customizable albums, access control, private/secure sites, integration of webmail, web-based file-transfer, web-based database access
    • Current server configuration:
      • Linux Redhat 7.1 + Apache + mod_perl + mod_ssl + PHP + Tomcat + JSP Wiki + MySQL + Squirrelmail
  • Plone
    • A full-blown content-management system
    • Goal: Setting it up, customizing one to support "home collaboration" between family members spread across multiple states.

Recent History

  • Turning-the-Age Young People Site
    • Started summer of 2003 for the college-age saints of the Mid-west/Great Lakes area
      • On-going but temporarily dormant
    • "Real" challenges
      • Attain popular usage, meet individual needs, foster communication and interaction, not let technology "get in the way" (usability)
    • Challenges and technologies explored
      • Set-up Apache with Tomcat support to enable JSP-based Wiki
      • Set-up MySQL to support JDBC-realm authentication for Tomcat
      • Learn/modify JSPWiki to support multiple "limbs"
        • But the idea of Wiki "SubPages" will soon supplement this custom code
    • Unresolved issues/items
      • Mailing list support
      • Auto-registration for individual access control
      • Domain name
      • Usage by the target users
  • SETI@home
    • Does it count as a "project" if your computer is doing all the work for you on its "spare cycles"?
    • Think there's E.T. out there? Want to join the 4.55 million others in search for one?<br> It's easy, it's fun, and it puts the wasted CPU cycles to good (hopefully that's what you think) use.<br> Set it to screensaver mode, and it'll never gets in the way of your daily work.
